“You Be the Judge!”
The Pillsbury Bake-Off has started its "You Be the Judge!" portion of the selection process for the 100 finalists for the April 2010 contest. Actually, I’m behind by two weeks, as they are already on #3 of 10 voting weeks. The recipes were due by April 20 and I’m amazed that they were able to, I assume, pick 90 "for sure" finalist recipes and then these 20 that will be narrowed down to 10 by the voting process. You have to register on the site to be able to vote. (That makes sense so they don’t have one person voting a million times for a recipe!) You can view the recipes in full (and I suppose actually make them for a real evaluation).
For this week I picked "Deluxe Triple Chocolate Cookies" because a) I’m thrilled that it’s a "real" recipe and not one based on a mix and b) I think using the hot chocolate powder is clever. If you want to enter a future Bake-Off, take note – using an unusual product from one of the sponsors gets your recipe noticed! I admit I have only read the two recipes and did not test them myself, but after so many years of baking, I’m pretty good at assessing recipes.
