tell part of the story.

The Story of Cake Love

Cake Love is Warren Brown’s passion. After earning a law degree, he worked as
an attorney for the federal goverment. Warren found himself wanting to
bake cakes more than practice law, realizing that creating beautiful
baked goods was his true passion. He began working on his idea in 2000
and opened Cake Love in March 2002.

Warren Brown’s dream is an every day reality with a busy bakery and
newly opened cafe, Love Cafe, across the street. Both feature homemade
treats with classic (chocolate, vanilla) and innovative (sweet corn!)
flavors.

Cake Love and Love Cafe aren’t only focused on serving delicious food.
They’re also about sharing ideas and inspiring their customers. On Wednesday
nights from 5-7, Warren prepares his famous Chocolate Lava Cakes during
“Chocolate Happy Hour” (happy, indeed!!!!!) Other special
features include cheesecake night on Tuesdays from 5-8 p.m., the only
time you can get cheesecake from Cake Love, accompanied by flavorful
toppings.

What to Order

Cakes, cupcakes, cookies, eclairs and so much more!
It is difficult to decide. These are the items we (three tasters) tried:

1. A slice of “My Downfall” cake – dark chocolate cake, layers of
vanilla buttercream, and iced with chocolate ganache. All three tasters
enjoyed this cake. One even picked it as the favorite of all five items.

2. Vanilla cupcake with amaretto
frosting. The frosting was buttery and delicately flavored – a real winner. Unfortunately, the cake itself was dry.

3. Chocolate “Venus Bar” – dark chocolate cake topped with French
buttercream, chocolate ganache, and chocolate meringues. This was
another top favorite, picked #1 by the other two tasters. (Note: the
description on the web site indicates “crispy chocolate wafer cake”,
but our piece was not crispy.)

4. Coconut pineapple “Crunchy Feet” – mini coconut pina colada
poundcake baked in small brioche pans. This is a great little morsel.
It was as described – rich and buttery like a poundcake, but crispy
on the edges and very flavorful. We’d love to try the other flavors.

5. Honey Sage “Buzz Ball” – cream puff with specialty filling. The
“puff” itself was not fantastic, perhaps it would have been better when
very fresh (we ate ours around 5 p.m.), but the honey sage filling was
very interesting. Again, this treat comes in many variations. Mango
sounded especially tempting.

Overall, the baked goods were very high quality without being overly
fancy and pretentious. You’re sure to find a favorite among the myriad
of options.
